We are Grace – United Methodist – Church
1. Church
With more than 850 adults, youth and children, we are large enough to be a “full service” church with excellent ministries for all ages, a full music program, and ministries of missions and service to the community, but not too large for you to get lost in the crowd. You’ll see people here just like you –people of all ages, backgrounds, and occupations from workers in the oil field industry to CEO’s.
We were organized and chartered in 1949 by Methodists from Robstown, who saw the need for a new church in the Annaville/Calallen area of northwest Corpus Christi. We are the only United Methodist church between Robstown and Odem and between Mathis and downtown Corpus Christi. The pioneer spirit of our founders lives on in us, as we prepare to build new facilities and move out on Northwest Blvd (FM 624).
We think of ourselves as a church, more than a fellowship, though “fellowship” is a vital aspect of any church. A church gathers for the sake of the mission it has been called to carry out, while providing fellowship to its members as they carry out their mission. The mission of our church centers around its name: Grace.
2. Grace
We are a church that is dedicated to God’s amazing grace. That’s why our name is Grace. Grace is God’s special love for human beings revealed in Jesus Christ. Our mission (why we exist) is to connect people with God’s grace. We are passionate about living up to our name. We want to be a “place of grace,” where people can experience God’s amazing, unconditional love, can be transformed by it, and in turn become agents of transformation.
3. United Methodist
We are part of the United Methodist family of churches, which began in England in the 1700’s. It was started as a spiritual renewal movement by Rev. John Wesley within the Church of England, whose roots run deep into the early Church when missionaries brought the gospel to the British Isles in A.D. 400-500. United Methodists are firmly in the mainstream of Christianity.
In America, the United Methodist Church is the second largest Protestant church. It has started colleges and hospitals all over our nation, including Southwestern University in Georgetown and SMU in Dallas and the Methodist Hospital systems in San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston. It includes persons of such diverse views as President George and Barbara Bush and former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. President Theodore Roosevelt once called it “the most representative church in America.”
The motto of the United Methodist Church:
open hearts, open minds, open doors
