What can I expect when I come to Grace?
The tone of both the traditional service and the contemporary service is relaxed and informal. Dress is casual at both services. You’ll see mostly jeans and casual shirts at the contemporary service. You’ll see a lot of casual shirts and slacks, and occasionally in cooler months, a few dress jackets at the traditional service. Rarely any ties. We care more about you than the way you dress.
Graphics, images, and video clips are projected at both services to enhance the message.
What’s the contemporary service like?
The tone is even more relaxed and informal. The music, provided by a band with guitars, drums, and keyboard, is upbeat and joyful. It ranges from high energy celebration to soft moments of worship. Prayers are led by various people. Almost never does the congregation pray printed prayers together. The pastors wear casual clothes like everybody else.
What’s the traditional service like?
The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The service will contain classic worship elements: a responsive call to worship, hymns, the Doxology, the “Glory be to the Father” (Gloria Patri), some written prayers prayed together in unison, special music by the choir and an Affirmation of Faith. The piano and organ are the principal musical instruments.
About Communion?
You may have grown up in a church that allowed only its own members to take communion. Not us! We welcome anyone to come and receive the bread and wine. You don’t have to be a member of Grace Church or a United Methodist to receive. After all, it’s Jesus’ table, not ours!
